Detailed Analysis

My first magizine which i found is 'Mad Hatter' its a indie, punk rock magazine which has an audinece of 17-24, it targets audiences with the soaicl values of Hedonists who prefer to play and ejoy life now. The colours are purples, simple colours, the photo is very artist with the word 'love' written on her leg.

My second magazine which i researched is 'Nylon' this is more of a mainstream rock magazine, unlike the first magazine the colours are bold and have striking fonts, the model is also famous, Scarlett Johansson which suggests it be a mainstream magazine, from the Strap lines, bold and in capitals, the audience which this would appeal to is between 18-25, with them having social values of Post modernists. From what i gather it would appeal to women, with talk about gossip girl, although with scarlett johansson on the cover striking a sexual pose with a guitar it will also appeal to a male audience.

My third Magazine is 'Indie Rocks' this magazine is much darker then the other two magazines, its a french magizane and even though the photo is darker the colours are bright and loud, the picture clearly shows the audience who would read this magazine and the age range would be around 16-21 who are into punk rock. There would have the social values of Post matarialists who, will wait later to get what they want. Would appeal to both sexs, male and female.

Evaluation 4

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt many new processes from constructing this media product..
one of which was using photo shop and changing and editing photos to suit the theme which i wanted. I had to do this on the winter issue, to make the background to look wintery. so i had to cut out the main model and use the contrast too change the colour.. It was hard to begin with because of the cuting and the merging but i found new ways.. I also learnt about what programs were good to produce the magazines on and hows to create puffs and strap lines.. :)

Evaluation 3

Who would be the audience for your media product?
My media product is for the student audience, who go to college.. this is aged around 16-19 for both male and female of the achievers and the aspirers. This is because that the media product is because it concentrates on, student life, budget and the fact and help to revise and survive college life.

How did you attract/address your audience?
To attract this audience, both magazines had college models who, looked quite academic and who would appeal to the target audience. The wording is quite unformal so who make the magazine feel more personal espically because the target audience is between 16-19 they would not read something too formal and tradditional. This wouldnt appeal to this audience.

Evaluation 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My media product repersents college students, i have done this by using college students as models and chosing those which look quite academic and those which an audience would appeal and relate with.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My media product is a cottage institution , which is low cost, unlike those magazine which own many and are at the high end of the market. As my Media product is a free Student Magazine the audience isnt as large and the budget isnt as large.

Evaluation 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product, seems to fit the critera of a real media product, for example my magazine has a traget audience, like many other magazines they each are intended for a different audience mine was inteneded for a student audience so the main photo image was of students who look people can relate too. My magazine also has puff strips and strap lines, these are important because it has to draw the audience attention to it, the puffs highlight the awards inwhich the the magazine has been awarded, mine has on and so do most other magazines which are on the market. Also the strao lines show what the main articles are, which are in the magazine, mine has these, the main articles the ones which the target audience would be moere intrested in.
My Magazine has all of these plus colours which would go with the theme.. of season.

Contents Page Research

Examples of magazine contents page

For our contents page research we are using Cosmopolitan and Stuff magazine.
Similarities are that both contents pages have a row of pictures down one side which demonstrate the main stories and there are page numbers for each article next to the picture. Also the other text is under sub headings and in columns.
They both have title stories advertised on the front cover as 'on the cover' and then titles of each story are in a bold font and they have a description underneath.
The similarities between the front cover and the contents page in both is that they use the same fonts and colours and style of pictures.

Student Magazine research on audience

Our magazine is aimed at male and female students aged 16-20 who like to have fun and socialise rather then spending time at home watching Coronation Street. People who spent their summer outside at lots of festivals, from V Festival to Nozstock, they are also very image conscious and would not be seen dead in a charity shop, unless volunteering for Duke of Edinburgh. College work is completed as soon as possible so that there is more time to spend with friends. For our models we will use people who are smiling so that they appear approachable, if they are female, their make up will be natural looking and they will look like they take pride in their appearance (clothes and hair). Our magazine will be produced at the beginning of each season (spring, summer, autumn and winter) because of this we will use seasonal colours on each magazine, for example in autumn we will use yellows, oranges and golds, all of these colours will be bright so that the magazine does not look depressing and instead looks positive. The masterhead for our magazine is 'College Seasons' this lets the audience know immediately that it is aimed at students and that it is a seasonal magazine. The language used in the magazine will be gramatically correct and proper English because this shows and encourages the academic side of student life and makes the magazine look professional and smart. The cover lines on our magazine will appeal to our target audience as they will cover current and upcoming events with reviews of past events.

College Magazine analysis

We chose 3 different college magazines
1.http://www.dancehall.mobi/pictures/college-lifestyle-magazine.jpg
2.https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRRO-i4VRTjfUjz5EaGr37GmIXTK67nNhQPEnEe2JY1UTF3NA1v6TX2AAQ2YlobOSE4ROcFrDNLhqDGS4V6COE99FDORaWYMbWBgnDq0W8RtkdBLBmYoqLc6aNNY-mQyed_uFDHbXc8fQ/s1600-h/FRONT+COVER.bmp
3.http://www.free-range.org.uk/images/images/8792.jpg
Each magazine had similar features, they all had 'Puffs' which highlight the success of the magazine. Another similar feature is they all have a Masthead in bold clear fonts, each magazine also shows the issue number, date and price with bar codes. All have cover lines with some 'Reversed out' cover lines too.
I would prefer to read the College Lifestyle Magazine. It graps the audiences attention and the cover lines seem to relate to the average student lifestyle.
The magazine i have chosen is 'College lifestyle' Magazine. The kind of person who would read would be Aspirers and Post Modernists and the age range would be around 17-25 years old.
The main sell is a picture of a student who is carrying books showing some of the most academic subjects, the student is smiling and the picture has been lightened. The Cover line colours are bright and a fresh green, this gives the magazine a positive meaning. The language is very modern, young and grammatical correct.

Audience of the Elle Magazine.

The Elle magazine has a female audience and a age based around 18-35. They would be succeeders and Aspirers this is mainly because most of the items which are shown in Elle are designer brands and are at the high end of the market. The social value would be Materialists due to the fact that nearly half of the pages in Elle are mosty adverts for hand bags or other clothing items...
